Ghoulishly good individual trifles with layers of fluffy vanilla cake, sweet cream filling, and crunchy Oreos! These Beetlejuice Mini Trifles are the perfect kickoff for the Halloween season!

To say that Beetlejuice is an iconic film would be an understatement. It’s one of the most well-known dark comedies of our time, thanks to its memorable cast of bizarre characters, creepy humor, bewitching soundtrack, and entertaining storyline. Along with Hocus Pocus, The Addams Family, and Casper, Beetlejuice is a must-watch around Halloween.

And now that the sequel to Beetlejuice has just been released, I can’t think of a better time to unveil my next devilishly delicious treat…

In the words of my boyfriend, these Beetlejuice Mini Trifles are “gangster.”

I have to say that I totally agree.

With layers of sweet vanilla cake, fluffy no-bake cheesecake filling, and deep dark chocolatey Oreos, every spoonful is exquisitely sinful from start to finish.

Why You’ll Love These Beetlejuice Mini Trifles

They’re SUPER easy to make – As time-consuming as these trifles might appear, they’re really quite easy to make. For one thing, the cake starts with a box cake mix. Don’t worry though! I’ve added a few ingredients to make the cake taste more homemade. As for the filling, it only requires four ingredients, and it comes together in less than 10 minutes! The layering process is just as simple, and in my opinion, it’s INCREDIBLY satisfying…

They transport REALLY well – Not only do the mason jars add to the cuteness factor of these mini trifles, but they make transporting a breeze. All you have to do is screw on a lid, and you’re good to go! And FYI, these mini trifles also make great gifts or party favors for any special occasion you might have coming up.

Perfect for freezing – Along with easier transport, the mason jars make freezing WAY more convenient. If you have any trifles leftover, screw on a lid, and toss it in the freezer. It’ll keep for up to 6 months. When you’re ready to eat one, take one out of the freezer and leave it on the counter for about an hour. Grab a spoon, and dig in!!

Delicious, Delicious, DELICIOUS!!!! – Unlike Beetlejuice, these trifles won’t unleash a bag of horrific pranks. On the contrary, they’re heavenly in every way imaginable. All of the flavors and textures blend so well together. From the moist and fluffy cubes of vanilla cake, to the light and creamy filling and crunchy Oreos…every single layer works in perfect harmony with one another.

How To Make The Trifles

Make the Cake – As I mentioned earlier, the cake begins with a box of cake mix. You can either use yellow or white. However, I would recommend white cake mix, so that you don’t have to contend with the yellow tint when it comes time to dye the batter.

The beauty of cake mixes is that there’s no strict order of mixing ingredients. Simply throw everything into the bowl and stir until combined. The batter might seem rather thick, but this is totally normal. Divide the batter evenly into two separate bowls, adding green food coloring to one bowl and purple food coloring to the other. Pour each colored batter into separate 8-inch round cake pans, and bake for about 30 minutes.

Make the Filling – The filling starts off by whipping two cups of heavy cream until stiff peaks form. Once it’s thick and fluffy, transfer the whipped cream to another bowl. Beat the cream cheese, powdered sugar, and vanilla together until smooth and creamy. Then add about a quarter of the whipped cream, mixing until just combined. Add the rest of the whipped cream, and gently fold everything together.

Time to Assemble

  1. Set out eight clean pint-sized mason jars. Slice both cakes into bite-sized cubes. Evenly distribute the green cake among the eight jars. To get those nice even layers, I used a chopstick to push the cake cubes into place. You could also use the handle of a wooden spoon or a butterknife.
  2. The next layer is the Oreos. Chop up 16 regular Oreos, then sprinkle them evenly among the jars. Or, if you’re a crazy perfectionist like myself, chop two Oreos at a time, then sprinkle them into one jar. Repeat seven more times with the other jars.
  3. As for the layer of cream filling, I like to put it into a large pastry bag fitted with a large round tip. You could also use a gallon size ziplock bag with the corner tip cut off. Piping the filling into the jars as opposed to spooning it in, makes for a much cleaner appearance. Not to mention, it’s A LOT quicker!
  4. After you’ve repeated these steps once more, top each trifle with some festive sprinkles and one final Oreo.

Whether you’re a fan of the cult classic or not, I have absolutely no doubt that you’ll love (and INHALE) these Beetlejuice Mini Trifles. In fact, my boyfriend was only planning on eating half of one, but he ended up eating the entire thing in only a few minutes.

I can’t really blame him though…

Make the Cake:

  • Preheat the oven to 350ºF; line two 8-inch round cake pans with parchment paper and spray with nonstick cooking spray. In a large mixing bowl, stir all of the cake ingredients together until smooth; batter will be thick.
  • Divide the batter in half, and pour into two separate mixing bowls. Dye each individually. Pour the batters into the prepared pans, and bake for 28-30 minutes, or until toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean. Allow to cool completely, then cut into bite-sized cubes.

  • Return bowl to mixer. Beat cream cheese until smooth. Add powdered sugar and vanilla; continue beating until smooth and combined.
  • Add a quarter of the whipped cream and beat until combined. Remove bowl from mixer and use a spatula to fold in the remaining whipped cream. Transfer to a pastry bag fitted with a large round tip, or a gallon-sized ziploc bag with the the corner tip cut off.

To Assemble:

  • Place a layer of the green cake cubes into the bottom of each jar. Coarsely chop 16 of the Oreos, then evenly distribute among the 8 jars. Pipe half of the filling into each jar.
