Hot Chocolate gets a makeover with the addition of rich, creamy eggnog and smooth, chocolatey Nutella!
When it comes to beverages, most people my age find comfort over a good glass of wine or a refreshingly cold brewksy. I, on the other hand, still have yet to outgrow my childish tendencies and would much rather have a rich cup of hot chocolate. I mean, when you think about it, what sounds better? A warm and luxurious beverage made of rich chocolate, or a lukewarm glass of fermented old grapes that were most likely stomped on by some old woman with athlete’s foot? This SHOULD be a no-brainer, people.
To me, there will NEVER be a drink more comforting than a steamy mug of smooth hot chocolate. My favorite part is the thin layer of chocolate froth that always settles at the top just after pouring a fresh cup. One of the things I love about this drink is that the flavors are pretty much endless. Love mint chocolate? Add a few drops of mint extract or even a candy cane to your cup! Obsessed with caramel? Stream in a few tablespoons of caramel sauce! With so many ways to customize, it’s pretty much impossible to ever get sick of this Godsend of a drink.
Seeing as I pretty much live on the stuff, I’ve definitely created my fair share of hot chocolate “concoctions” over the years. And today, I’m introducing you to one of them…
This is what happens when hot chocolate, eggnog, and Nutella have a threesome.
HOLY MOLY.
You can’t get any richer or creamier than this drink right here. It’s almost like drinking melted chocolate ice cream, it’s so creamy and dreamy! But don’t worry, I made sure to “lighten” things up a bit by adding some milk. And since milk “does a body good” (anyone else remember that commercial?), that makes this hot chocolate much healthier.
MUCH healthier…
One of the secrets to making good hot chocolate is to add just a pinch of salt at the end. Just like cookie dough or cake batter, adding salt brings out the flavor and sweetness of whatever you’re making.
The Nutella just adds even more creamy richness to this hot chocolate. In fact, I might’ve gone a “tad” overboard when I added it to the pot. There’s a whopping FIVE Tablespoons in this drink–more than double the amount of cocoa powder. Oops 😉
I must add that the five tablespoons does NOT include the drizzle of Nutella that I added for garnish. It should be known that a GOOD cup of hot chocolate is not complete without at least a few (twenty) marshmallows and a fluffy crown of whipped cream.
I LOVE how the soft marshmallows merge to form a sweet, sugary foam as they melt into the hot chocolate.
If you still can’t get enough of this euphorically delicious combo, head over here for a taste of my Nutella-Stuffed Eggnog French Toast!
Happy drinking!
