Chocolate bark filled with a creamy Nutella filling and topped with toasty hazelnuts and melted white chocolate. It’s like eating a fancy candy bar!

I think everyone remembers their first encounter with the lusciously wonderful spread of the Gods that we call Nutella. And ever since that first discovery, we can’t live without it. It’s just not possible.People don’t just taste Nutella and forget about it. No, that would be absurd! Unless of course, if they just don’t like this beautifully, smooth, decadent, rich, chocolatey spread of perfection. Come on people, with those kind of adjectives, how can you NOT want to fill a bathtub with this stuff and bathe in it for days?!

Ok, maybe not bathe in it, but you get the point, right?

Nutella is AMAZING!

So! I thought it was time I create a treat with this magical gooey goodness. This is what I came up with…

Nutella Filled Chocolate Bark!!!

Yes, people, there is a God.

Merged

If it’s possible, I think I love Nutella even more after making this.

Let’s go through the anatomy of this magical treat, shall we? It’s got a layer of semi-sweet chocolate, then a layer of sweet Nutella filling, followed by another layer of semi-sweet chocolate, sprinkled with some toasty chopped hazelnuts, and finished off with a mesmerizing white chocolate drizzle. Love at first bite! It was like a scene straight out of The Hobbit with me as Gollum, obsessing over the bark like it was my “Precious.” Ok, I’m exaggerating. (Actually, I’m not.)

The combination of flavors and textures is absolutely surreal. The Nutella filling is super creamy and just melts in your mouth.

Using both semi-sweet and white chocolate adds a nice dimension of flavors as well.

The toasted hazelnuts were a great reminder of the true star of the show–Nutella! And if you’re thinking of not toasting the nuts, DON’T DO IT! You’ll be missing out on so much flavor since toasting really heightens the flavor of nuts. Besides, it only takes a few extra minutes of your time, so it’s well worth it. All you have to do is spread the nuts on a baking sheet and bake in a preheated 400F degree oven for 3-4 minutes. Just be sure that you really keep an eye on the oven while the nuts are toasting. It can go from nicely golden brown to black and bitter in a matter of seconds!

Once again, I’ve provided my handy dandy step-by-step photos for you to follow along!

First we’ll start with the filling. In a mixing bowl, cream together 1 cup of Nutella and 1/4 cup of unsalted butter. Then add 1 cup of powdered sugar, 2 tablespoons of milk, 1 teaspoon of vanilla, and 1/4 teaspoon of salt. Mix to combine and set aside.

Using a rubber or offset spatula, spread half of the melted chocolate on a wax paper-lined baking sheet.

Prep Time 45 minutes
Refrigeration Time 40 minutes
Total Time 1 hour 25 minutes
Course Dessert
Cuisine American
Servings 8 Servings

Ingredients

  • 1 cup Nutella
  • ¼ cup unsalted butter at room temperature
  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 2 Tablespoons milk
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • ¼ teaspoon salt
  • 16 ounces semi-sweet chocolate
  • ½ cup white chocolate*
  • ½ cup hazelnuts toasted and chopped

Instructions

  • Line a large baking sheet with wax or parchment paper.
  • In the bowl of a stand mixer (or with a large bowl and a hand mixer) mix the Nutella and butter together. Add the powdered sugar, milk, vanilla and salt and mix until smooth. Set aside
  • Place the semi-sweet chocolate in a microwave-safe bowl and microwave for one minute. Remove from the microwave, stir, and return to the microwave for another 30 seconds until completely smooth.
  • Pour half of the melted chocolate into lined baking sheet and spread out evenly with a rubber or offset spatula. Allow chocolate to set in the refrigerator for 20 minutes. Meanwhile, melt the white chocolate in a microwave-safe bowl in the microwave until smooth.
  • Once set, spoon Nutella filling onto chocolate and spread evenly. Top with remaining semi-sweet chocolate and spread. Sprinkle with the chopped hazelnuts, then drizzle with the white chocolate.
  • Refrigerate for 20 minutes to allow chocolate to set up. Peel the bark off of the wax or parchment paper and cut into pieces with a knife. Bark will stay fresh in and airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 1 week.

Notes

* If using white chocolate chips, add about 1/2 teaspoon of vegetable oil while melting. This will thin it out a little, so that it'll be easier to drizzle over the bark.
Tip: Instead of putting the finished bark in the refrigerator, I put it in the freezer for about an hour to let it harden up fully. This allowed me to cut the bark more cleanly.

You’re killing me… Why can’t there be a “try it” button that will make a sample (or twenty) magically appear next to the computer?! I just recently had Nutella for the first time and I LOVE it (insane that I went 30 years without it; how did I live?!)
Thanks so much for sharing this with us at Delicious Dish Tuesday!! Love all of these goodies you keep sharing. Now, if only we can figure out a way to eat all of these goodies without having to worry about which part of the body it will apply itself to. 😛

I agree Alesha – a “try it” button would definitely be a great feature to have when we’re all drooling over these recipes! That goes for Smell-o-vision too 😉

Wow this recipe looks pretty darn good. I’m not a huge chocolate fan and I’ve actually never had Nutella (I know I’m crazy), but my dad & boyfriend would LOVE this recipe. So I may be making it for them shortly. Thanks for sharing Jillian!

If your dad and boyfriend love chocolate, they’ll definitely love these! The nice thing about Nutella is you can spread it on toast and call it breakfast, even though it’s basically chocolate frosting 😉
